More than an English class

A reason to read.
A place to belong.

01

Read books worth talking about

Original short stories and carefully chosen published books—selected for adults, not schoolchildren.

02

Practise expressing yourself

Explain ideas, express opinions and summarise what you’ve read. The more often you turn your thoughts into spoken English, the easier and more natural it becomes.

03

Become part of a small community

Get to know the same thoughtful group over a term. The aim is connection, not another anonymous class.

How the club works

Start with stories.
Choose the book together.

Established clubs usually run as a term. The new Wednesday group begins with an eight-week opening term, giving you a manageable way to try the format.

During those opening sessions, the group gets to know one another and chooses the published book it wants to read. Then we read it in manageable sections and meet each week to talk about it.

Your host

Thoughtful conversation, carefully guided.

I’m Tim, a British English teacher based in London. I created The English Book Room for adults who want to express real ideas in English—not simply work through another textbook.

“You don’t need perfect English to have something interesting to say.”

Your information

Privacy notice

The English Book Room is run by Tim Band. If you have a question about your information, email hello@theenglishbookroom.com.

What I collect and why

The registration form asks for your contact details, location and time zone, English level, learning goals, reading preferences and group availability. I use this information to reply to your enquiry, arrange a level conversation, assess which group may suit you and manage your place.

This processing is necessary to take steps at your request before you join and for my legitimate interest in running suitable, well-matched groups. If you become a member, I also use relevant details to provide the service and meet legal and accounting obligations.

How your information is handled

I do not sell your information. I share it only with service providers needed to run the form, email and online sessions. Where information is handled outside the UK, I rely on the safeguards required by UK data-protection law.

Enquiries that do not lead to membership are normally deleted after 12 months. Member records are kept only as long as needed to run the club and meet legal or accounting requirements.

Emails and your rights

Occasional news about future groups is sent only if you choose the separate email option. You can unsubscribe at any time.

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, restrict or object to its use, or withdraw consent by emailing me. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
